I'm sure you've heard the phrase, "the more the merrier."

Well, when it comes to D2C sales, it's also true that "the more reviews, the merrier."

Reviews are one of the most important factors in determining whether or not someone buys from you. It's like a virtual pat on the back. But in all seriousness, reviews are crucial for any online business, it's like having a group of personal cheerleaders for your products.

Because, nobody wants to buy the lonely product on the virtual shelf with no friends, aka reviews. And this is how your customer think if they see a better product with zero reviews:

And in this blog post, we will be showing you step-by-step how to add a review page on shopify that will boost your sales and increase customer trust. So, let's get started on getting those 5-star reviews rolling in.

Who knows, maybe with enough glowing reviews, your products will be the belle of the e-commerce ball!

Why do you need customer reviews on Shopify?

Because it builds trust. In today's crowded and competitive space, everyone claims their products are the best. The truth is, we don't know what works and what doesn't. Customer reviews can help you cut through all the noise, gather real feedback from real people, and make better decisions about your business.

Keep yourself in your customer's shoes, when you are making a purchase, what's the one thing that holds you back from purchasing?

Is it the fear about the quality of the product? Or Is it the fear of the results that the product brings?

Either case, a customer review that says, " I have used this product and it works wonders. I would definitely recommend it", can help you sell more.

In general, products with many customer reviews are seen as low-risk purchases, whereas products with few or no reviews are considered high-risk. So why not leverage it in your favor? After all, it only helps you make more sales.

How to Add a Review section/Review page on Shopify?

To ease the process, you need the support of a Shopify app. So, install "Shopify’s Product Reviews app." You can even use paid tools to do the same if you want advanced features. However, the steps to activate the review section are same for the both methods.

Step 1: Go to the Shopify theme editor.

First, go to Online Store > Themes and click the Customize button on the theme you want to edit

Step 2: Go to the product page template.

You will see the homepage layout once you land on the theme editor.

From the drop-down menu at the top of your screen, click Products. Choose Default Template to edit or create an entirely new product template by clicking Create New.

Step 3: Create a new section.

On the product page, scroll down to the bottom of your left-side menu.

Click Add section and scroll down until you see the Apps sections. For Product Reviews, click on either Reviews or Star rating (or both) to add them.

In the Reviews block, you can see full customer reviews. The Star rating block just shows your company's cumulative star rating from all its reviews. Like any other section or block in Shopify admin, you can drag these up and down onscreen to place them where they work best for your business

Step 4: Customizing your review blocks.

With Product Reviews, your options for customizing customer reviews are limited. You can modify the appearance of star ratings and badges along the right side of the screen—changing their color and size as well as text alignment if you don't have any pending reviews.

All other changes must be made within the app itself. If a change is needed outside of the app (such as on your website), it either can't be done at all or requires extra steps and software to make it happen.

You can include reviews or star ratings in the Product information section by clicking "Add block" and then choosing what type of feedback you'd like to display.

With this approach, you'll have a star rating just below the product title with a number link to the reviews themselves. You can easily drag this block anywhere within the section—like the above description or the add-to-cart button.

How to add Google Customer Reviews on Shopify?

Google Customer Reviews gathers feedback from customers about the product, seller, and transaction when they make a purchase on your site.

To gather feedback from customers who have made purchases, the app provides an option for users to sign up for a survey after making a purchase. When they opt-in, Google Customer Reviews sends them an email asking how their experience was and what they can do better next time. Once you have 150 customer reviews, you can install the Google Customer Reviews Badge.

You can increase the trust of your customers with Google Customer Reviews by displaying the badge on the product page.

Let's see how you can set up this.

Step 1: Register for the program.

To register your program, go to Google Merchant Center and click Manage programs under Growth.

Source

Click on the Customer Reviews tab. Read the terms and conditions and select continue.

Step 2: Copy the code under Settings.

Within the Settings tab of your Merchant Center account, you will find an "Opt-In Integration" script that looks like this:

Source

First, customize the bolded red text in this script to fit your unique settings. Then follow the directions below to implement it on your website.

<script>

  window.renderOptIn = function() {

    window.gapi.load('surveyoptin', function() {

      window.gapi.surveyoptin.render(

        {

          // REQUIRED FIELDS

          "merchant_id": XXXXXXXXX,

          "order_id": "{{ order.order_number }}",

          "email": "{{ checkout.email }}",

          "delivery_country": "{{ shipping_address.country_code }}",

          "estimated_delivery_date": "{{ order.created_at | date: "%s" | plus : 604800 | date: "%Y-%m-%d" | uri_encode | replace:"+","%20"}}",

        });

    });

  }

</script>

But you have to modify the Merchant ID and the Estimated delivery Date fields.

The estimated_delivery_date field tells Google when to send the opt-in email survey. The script uses seconds—86,400 of them equal one day—to tell Google how many days should pass before sending out the first message. So calculate it accordingly.

Step 3: Paste the code.

Go to Settings > Checkouts and accounts in the Shopify admin. Paste the code under “Additional scripts” on the "Order status page."

How can you ask your customers to leave reviews?

Let's be honest. People hate writing reviews, as they have to spend time writing them. But they also hate being asked to leave a review and tend to ignore such requests.

That's why it's important to make the request as easy and painless as possible.

But what if you can give them a discount on their next purchase when they leave a review on the last purchase? It's a good deal, and people hardly refuse it.

But how? This is where BiteSpeed comes in. It helps you send review requests to your customers via WhatsApp and makes the whole process easier and quicker. The best thing is that you can collect the original images and the ratings from the customers without making them leave WhatsApp.

It becomes more of a chat and who else doesn't love chatting with their favorite brand?😉

Later, you can download the response and upload it to your store. This whole process makes it simple to collect reviews and ratings from your customers, thus increasing the number of reviews on your store. And as you chat, you can even upsell another product to your customer.

Yes, BiteSpeed will do the legwork for you. So you can just set the flow and focus on what matters the most: Selling. And this is just a part of the puzzle where BiteSpeed helps you gain more profit.
